Yehl Skipper
Poanes yehl
Yehl Skipper is rare and local in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain. Because it is often found in or near dense swamps , most populations are probably never discovered. The hostplant is switch cane (Arundinaria tecta), which is common in most Georgia swamps and riparian areas. Where colonies occur, they can be found in good numbers on nectar. There are two broods: the early summer flight is the shorter, occurring from mid-May (May 18, Thomas County) to late June (June 23, Union County). The late summer and fall flight is longer occurring from late August (Aug 31, McIntosh County) into October (Oct 9, Twiggs County). Conservation Status: Secure.
