Variegated Fritillary

Variegated Fritillary is common statewide. It prefers open areas including old fields, roadsides and flower gardens. There are three broods from April to October with some individuals lingering into December on the Coast. The hostplants are Passionflower (Maypop) (Passiflora incarnata), Violets (Viola) and Common Moonseed (Menispermum canadense). Early Date: April 13 (Walker County); Late Date: December 12 (Liberty County- St. Catherine’s Island) Conservation status: Secure.
