Twin-spot Skipper
Oligoria maculata
Twin-spot Skipper is locally common in the Coastal counties and in the Piedmont National Forest just north of Macon, but the two habitats are surprisingly different. On the Coast, it is found in brackish marshes, and in the Piedmont National Forest it is found in dry mixed forest. Perhaps it is more widely distributed in Georgia than is presently known since there are big gaps in the distribution map. The hostplant is not well known either, but Glassberg has recently (2012) cited “bluestem grasses.” There are two broods: May and June (May 4, Screven Co, May 12, May 29, Camden Co, Jones Co, June 7, Butts Co.) and August and September (August 17, Charlton Co, August 25, Jones Co, September 28, Monroe Co). Conservation Status: Secure.
