Red Admiral is uncommon but regular statewide. The habitat is almost any open area, and it is often seen perching on roads or paths near puddles or damp spots. The hostplants are Smallspike False Nettle (Boehmeria cylindrica), Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), Heartleaf Nettle (Urtica chamaedryoides) and Florida Pellitory (Parietaria floridana)(Coast). There are three broods, with a spring brood appearing in early April and the summer brood on the wing in June, followed by the fall brood in August to October. Overwintering adults are sometimes seen on warm winter days. Early Date: January 6 (Grady County)(overwintering), March 9 (Monroe County) (Spring); Late Date: October 26 (Chatham). Conservation Status: Secure.
