Pearl Crescent

Pearl Crescent is one of our most common butterflies statewide. It is a true generalist and is found in many different habitat wherever asters grow. There are three broods with a fourth in South Georgia. It has been recorded in every month of the year except December with the first flight beginning in February and March in deep South Georgia along the Florida line and in March and April elsewhere. The hostplants are asters including heath aster (Aster pilosus), bushy aster (Aster dumosus), calico aster (Aster lateriflorus) and others. Early Date: Jan 2 (Grady County); Late Date: November 29 (Baker County). Conservation Status: Secure.
