Northern Cloudywing

Northern Cloudywing is uncommon to locally common statewide, but it is easier to find north of the Fall Line. It uses a wide range of habitats including dry pine woods (Meriwether County), mesic deciduous woods (Rockdale County), and sandhills (Crawford County). There are up to three broods: Coastal Plain: mid-March (March 18, Crisp County) to mid-April (April 12, Grady County) and July (July 23, Seminole County) to September (September 4, Wayne County); North of the Fall Line: late April (April 25, Walker County) to late May (May 20, Fulton County) and late June (June 25, Troup County) to late August (August 29, Habersham County). The hostplants are beggar’s ticks (beggar lice) (Desmodium), bush-clover (Lespedeza) and clover (Trifolium). Early Date: March 28 (Grady County); Late Date: August 29 (Habersham County). Conservation Status: Secure.
