Mottled Duskywing Erynnis martialis

Mottled Duskywing in uncommon statewide although its hostplant, New Jersey Tea (Ceanothus americanus), has been documented in 80 counties with sparse distribution. (Tom Patrick, GA- DNR). The habitat includes open understories in open dry woods, glades and around rock outcrops and rock bluffs, preferring a well-drained sandy soil. (Patrick). It occurs in old growth long-leaf pine forest in Thomas County (Jue and Jue). There are two broods with a partial third brood: the spring brood occurs from late March (27 March, Coweta County) into mid-May (May 15, Fannin County); the summer brood occurs from late May (May 29, Bartow County (fresh)) into July (July 28, Taylor County); and a partial brood in August and September (August 15 (Talbot County). Early Date: March 27 (Coweta County); Late Date: August 15 (Talbot County). Conservation Status: Secure.
