Little Yellow
Pyrisitia lisa
Little Yellow is common statewide but is more abundant south of the Fall Line. It is sensitive to cold and may retreat from northern counties in winter. The habitat is open areas including fields, open woods, sandhills and roadsides. There are probably three broods with adults overwintering and appearing in early spring. Most sightings are from June to October, with fewer sightings in the spring. There are two forms: the yellow summer form and the albinistic fall form. The hostplants are Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata), Sensitive Pea (Chamaecrista nictitans). Early Date: January 2 (Grady County); Late Date: October 28 (Twiggs County). Conservation Status: Secure.
