Hayhurst’s Scallopwing
Staphylus hayhurstii
Hayhurst’s Scallopwing is uncommon statewide. The habitat is weedy fields, roadsides, forest trails “near a small creek running through a wooded area” and “along the weedy edges of an old railroad track” (Harris, 1972). The hostplants are lamb’s quarters (Chenopodium album) and, less commonly, chaff flower (Alternanthera). There are two broods: Late April (April 15, Upson County) to June (June 28, Fannin County) and July (July 14, Cobb County) and August (August 22, Screven County). Early Date: April 15 (Upson County); Late Date: August 30 (Upson County). Conservation Status: Secure.
