Cobweb Skipper
Hesperia metea

Cobweb Skipper is uncommon and local from the Mountains and Ridge and Valley to the Fall Line. The habitat is open grassy areas in pine-oak or pine forest or along trails through them where the hostplants little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) or big bluestem (Schizachyrium gerardii) are plentiful. It never strays far from the hostplant. Some open habitats grow in over time, and the colony moves. There is one brood in April and May, with most sightings in April. Early Date: April 4 (Monroe County); Late Date: May 24 (Floyd and Chattooga Counties). Conservation Status: Secure.
