Ceraunus Blue Hemiargus ceraunus
Ceraunus Blue is locally common on the Coast and across the Coastal Plain but uncommon north of the Fall Line. The habitat is sandhills, open pine or oak woods, dunes, vacant lots and other open areas, especially sandy areas. The hostplants are partridge pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata), sensitive partridge pea (Chamaecrista nictitans), eastern milkpea (Galactia regularis), hairy lespedeza (Lespedeza hirta), and bigpod sesbania (Sesbania herbacea). The occurrence has not been well documented, but there appear to be three broods in Georgia. The fall brood overwinters with adults appearing in late winter or early spring (Jan 11, Glynn County). The first summer brood occurs in May (May 15, Emanuel County) and June (June 28, Richmond County). The second brood occurs in July (July 8, McIntosh County) and August (August 25, Liberty County), and the fall brood from September (September 3, Dougherty County) to November (November 8, Tift County). Early Date: January 11 (Glynn County); Late Date: December 11, Macon County). Conservation Status: Secure.
