Byssus Skipper
Problema byssus
Byssus Skipper is rare in the Mountains, where it is restricted to the valleys and uncommon elsewhere except on the Coast where it is locally common. The habitat is fresh water marsh edges, grassy wetland edges, wet pine savannahs, and other moist places with the hostplant, eastern gamma grass (Tripsacum dactyloides) that grows in dense clumps. There are two broods: the spring brood occurs from early May into early June in South Georgia and late May through June in Middle and North Georgia; the late summer brood occurs from August to mid-September, starting earlier in South Georgia and a bit later in Middle and North Georgia. Early date: May 7 (Grady County); Late Date: September 11 (Bartow County). Conservation Status: Secure.
