Appalachian Brown is locally common north of the Fall Line and in the upper Coastal Plain but is uncommon and local in the middle and lower Coastal Plain where the range is poorly known. It is restricted to habitat with abundant sedge (Carex) species including swampy places near sedge marshes and open sedge patches in woodlands. There are two broods from early May to late-September. Early Date: May 1 (Jones County); Late Date: September 24 (Richmond County). Conservation Status: Secure.
